Chili anyone? Well the CSUB baseball team spent their Saturday helping out Gamme Phi Beta at their first chili cookoff to help raise money for local charities and send underpriviledged kids to summer camp. The Roadrunenrs served as judges at the chili cookoff and even walked away with a second-place finish for their recipe which I heard was borrowed from associate head coach Jody Robinson and scaled down a tad with turkey instead of beef. Well done boys.
In home athletics events this weekend, CSUB wrestling handled their business against Cal Baptist 26-7 for their third straight dual victory.
It was also a successful weekend on the road for CSUB women’s swimming who continues to improve into what has become their best season in a long time as they swept the tri dual defeating Loyola Marymount and Cal Baptist Saturday at LMU. Freshman Michaela Paige won a couple of events once again for the ‘Runners who improved to 7-6 on the season.
Meanwhile on the men’s side, CSUB improved to 6-3 on the year with a dual win over Cal Baptist which was also held at LMU.
Also in the water, CSUB water polo faced a couple of tough teams this past weekend at the UC Santa Barbara Invitational including a loss to #1 Stanford. The ‘Runners will continue their tough road stretch playing in a tournament this weekend against #6 UC Irvine and #7 San Diego State.
CSUB did manage a split on the first day of competition, losing to UC Irvine but defeating Concordia 11-10.
Meanwhile we spoke about baseball earlier, on the field they have started practice and some national writers are starting to weigh in with preseason rankings, etc. College Baseball Today recently ranked all 298 teams…giving the Roadrunners plenty of respect.
Also, CollegeSportsMadness.com released their preseason all-conference team with CSUB receiving plenty of nods in their first season in the WAC.
Also, the ‘Runners met the media Friday afternoon before practice, and some national media have the ‘Runners picked pretty low in their preseason conference polls, that of course has given head coach Bill Kernen something to prepare for and prove differently. He spoke to the media about expectations and exceeding them this year.
Onto the radio, Saturday’s ‘Roadrunner Rundown’ included highlights from baseball media day featuring players and coaches along with an interview with CSUB softball coach Crissy Buck as her team is already underway in practice and just about a week away from game action. If you missed the show, listen below and have a great Monday.
